The BEST Banana Bread–no joke!
I know, I know, calling this recipe the best chocolate chip banana bread is a big claim, but I am not kidding when I say, it really is true!! Few treats epitomize comfort and indulgence as perfectly as a slice of moist, flavorful banana bread studded with melty chocolate chips. When I visited NYC a couple of years ago, my cute niece took me to this darling cafe for breakfast and we had slices of thick chocolate chip banana bread, served with a dollop of vanilla bean whipped cream and fresh raspberries. It is was simple, but unforgettable! Banana bread has always been a beloved comfort food, but when you introduce chocolate chips into the equation, it transforms into a luxurious delight that bridges the gap between breakfast and dessert.
I love this recipe for many reasons, but first, lets take a minute and appreciate how easy it is to make (huge plus for me)! Next, it has the most tender, buttery base, that is not too sweet. I have compared it with other recipes and this one has more bananas and less sugar, which I LOVE. Then the addition of the chocolate chips, that get all melty and goey while it bakes, taking the humble classic banana bread to new heights!
Lastly, I don’t get it, but this recipe is NEVER dry…even if you accidentally overbake it by a few minutes, like I have before. It is still wonderful. My boys love this recipe and it is gone very quickly at our house. If you’re on a quest for the perfect recipe to satisfy your cravings and impress your taste buds, look no further. Let me present to you the best chocolate chip banana bread recipe that will have you reaching for seconds, and maybe even thirds!
Ingredients you will need:
*Bananas— (I like to throw over ripe bananas into the freezer (with the peel on) and when I have enough I make this chocolate chip banana bread. I usually double it and make 2 loaves. One for now and one for the freezer.
*Sugar--both white granulated sugar and brown sugar. It actually only has a cup total, which is less than many banana bread recipes.
*Eggs–bring to room temperature first
*Vanilla extract
*All Purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt
*Chocolate Chips--I like semisweet but you can use milk chocolate if you prefer. Sometimes I use a mix of regular size and mini
I like to hold out a few chocolate chips from the batter to sprinkle on top.
Whether enjoyed as a grab and go breakfast for your family on busy mornings or a comforting afternoon snack, this banana bread will hit the spot! So, gather the ingredients, preheat your oven, and get ready to create the BEST chocolate chip banana bread that leave craving for more.

Description
This Banana bread combines the sweetness of ripe bananas with melty chocolate, always moist and flavorful! Love this recipe!!
Ingredients
- 4 overripe bananas, mashed (approximately 2 cups)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2– 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark, depending on your preference)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard loaf pan.
- In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
- In the bowl of your stand mixer, add the softened butter and both sugars and cream together for 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in the mashed, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until the mixture is smooth and evenly incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Be cautious not to overmix; a few lumps are fine.
- Fold in most of the chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter. (Hold back a few chocolate chips to sprinkle over the top.)
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula and sprinkling the reserved chocolate chips on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs (avoid overbaking to maintain moistness).
- Once baked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
*To quickly get your butter to room temperature–place in microwave for 1 min at 10% power (level 1)
*To quickly get your eggs to room temperature, place in a bowl of warm water
