Well hello again friends!
Now that summer is over and all my boys are back in school, I can finally find some time to post our favorite recipes again:) Sorry for the long summer break, but I was a busy Momma the last few months. I LOVE summertime with all my boys home but I also LOVE the school year with more structure. Today was the first day of school for us and it is definitely bitter sweet. This year I have a senior, 8th grader, 5th grader and 4th grader. Not to mention my oldest son who is serving a full time mission right now! Time is flying by–and my boys are growing up so fast– I am doing my best to soak up the time with them and enjoy it!
I like to start the day off for my family with a nice green smoothie. We have this everyday, if not in the morning then for after school or even with dinner. I have posted my method here already. This summer I bought the Simple Green Smoothie Cookbook to try some new smoothie recipes for variety, but found that my boys really just prefer the standard smoothie that they list first called ‘Beginners Luck Green Smoothie’ the best. Silly boys are not interested in much variety! I thought I would share it with you too because it is really tasty and great way to start on the green smoothie habit. I love that I can get some super nutritious goodness into my kids first thing in the morning. It’s like a little diet insurance policy!
All of our favorite Smoothies can be found here.
**I will say that a very powerful blender is key! I have the Blendtec and LOVE it. We use it daily and it is on it’s 9th year now!!
Post Script:
I did some research when I needed to replace my Blendtec after 10 years of use and decided to go with the Vitamix. Both blenders are great!!
I want to know if you have a favorite smoothie recipe? Please share either in the comments or email me at melandboys@gmail.com

I really like to add bananas for texture–they make the smoothies creamy and smooth. If you leave out the banana try adding some avocado. I think you could just leave the banana out of any smoothie with great results (still just as tasty, but if you want it more creamy sub a 1/2 an avocado).

Do you have a smoothie recipe with out bananas?

I love this recipe! I add a lot more spinach though —- trying to get more greens in my diet! 😊

I love this recipe but I double the spinach as I am trying hard to eat more greens. 😉
