My dear friend Laura L. who LOVES anything chocolate gave me this amazing sauce one year for Christmas. It is seriously good–a huge step up from regular chocolate sauce. It really does taste like you have poured a fine chocolate truffle over your icecream. All of a sudden a simple treat has turned into a decadent, rich , first class dessert. This is something you could serve to impress and yet it is so easy to make! I have to admit that although it is wonderful heated up and poured over a bowl of vanilla bean icecream, it is equally delicious to enjoy a cold spoonful straight from the jar! This is dangerous stuff to have around if you are on a diet!
PrintChocolate Truffle Sauce
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup whipping cream
- 2 Tb butter
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 t vanilla
Instructions
- Put butter and cream in a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until cream is hot. Do NOT BOIL. Remove from heat and add chocolate. Let it melt then whisk until smooth and add vanilla. You may also make this in microwave–although I never have.

I made this for the boys' (and girls) traditional banana splits after Priesthood session. Sooo good. What took me so long to try this?! I used half milk and half sem-sweet chocolate chips. Yum! Then last night I was craving a treat, and before I knew it Griff had heated up a small bowl of the truffle sauce, whipped up some cream (seriously… I was impressed), and cut up fruit on a plate. This recipe turned out to be a great impromptu fondue, too!

I made this last night and it was a huge hit! I actually tripled the recipe because I have such a big family, but it was way too much. That's ok, it leaves more for me! Ha ha

I love this idea! I want to make it for a friend that lives in another state and mail it, do you have to refregerate it? Can you somehow seal it in a jar?

This came up on my blog roll and since I had book marked your recipe the other day, it seemed extremely familiar…

This stuff is to die for!! I rarely make it because Eric and I can't resist it – it doesn't last but a few days…and we never usually even eat it with icecream! we just can't resist dipping in with a spoon and eating it straight… YUM!! I LOVE THIS TRUFFLE SAUCE!!

Just the name was enough to have me drooling, but then you added the photo and the description. I must try this! And we just bought some ice cream today.

Mmmm… looks so good, Mels! Have you ever tried it with milk chocolate chips? I am not a huge fan of semisweet. I know that is blaspheme for true chocolate lovers. 🙂

Well, after a description like that, I am really grateful you have provided the recipe! It looks so simple yet so decadent…just like ganache. YUM!

Hi Barbie and CJ,
to answer your questions–I would estimate that it makes around 3 cups. I have never measured it though. It is very rich and little goes a long way. Also, I am not sure how long it lasts. I have had it for around 3 weeks in my fridge–and it was still great. Honestly, I usually only make it for a special occasions for dessert or give away and like I said it is so good it doesn't last long (it gets eaten quick:)

This looks sooo good!
How much does it make and how long does it keep once you give it as a gift?
